A little editorial flair 😌✨ + Aleks’ Writer Side ✍️

Here’s a project I was very excited and eager to present. I wrote this article on horror film scores one year ago and now I’m able to present it on an editorial layout that I’m very proud of. This piece means a lot both in the content and the visual ways: it merges my two passions in life (or maybe more). Let’s say, the professional aspects I enjoy the most: film-oriented design and writing.

If you had asked me 10 years ago “Why you wanna be a graphic designer?”, I would have answered, “Because I want to create editorial spreads and work on art books”. A lot has happened since and my work has evolved in unexpected yet thrilling and fulfilling ways. Nonetheless, editorial design has always been part of my journey and a key to my style. When I see all these amazing artists doing unbelievable stuff on Photoshop and canvases, I can’t help but wonder what skills I have to offer as a designer, rather than an illustrator or craftsman. The answer often is “editorial”. I’m no expert on the matter but I believe my type sensibility and my constant pursuit of great compositing have led me to contribute to my projects a new layer to their visual communication through editorial design (press kits, commemorative books, magazine covers, one sheet, infographics, etc.) In a way, poster design is editorial, as it requires skills for compositing type, image, layout, margins, space, and content. That is why I believe posters are the ultimate graphic form.
