This one took a while to cook up in regards to the concept. I knew I didn’t want to use popular imagery like Maverick’s face but something that visually conveyed speed.
I landed on the concept of using the film’s third act challenge as a starting point.
The art direction of the retro futuristic look came from the idea of Maverick being “stuck” in the past and the “old dog” completing the mission.
In the end I like how it came out to resemble a recruitment ad. I could see it posted on Mav’s wall in his hanger.
