Verity Baird
Biography
Verity Baird is a passionate watercolorist and an animal enthusiast. In 2020, she graduated with a Master’s in Fine Art from the University of Brighton. Her passion for watercolour was reignited during the Covid-19 lockdowns, and so she combined her painting pursuit with her love of animals. Verity then started to paint animal portraits to supplement her income and this formed the basis of her Pet Portrait Business, Verity Petraits. Since then Verity has had a few successes such as, becoming a finalist for the International Competition, ‘Sketch For Survival 2021’; the open call asked artists to submit an artwork of an endangered species to raise funds for animal conservation. Her artwork, ‘We Are All Mother’ was exhibited and auctioned at the OXO Tower Wharf Gallery in London. This success spurred her on to join the entrepreneurial mentoring program at the University of Brighton. In 2022 Verity won the Santander X Startup Grant to start her Pet Portrait Business, in addition she also won the grant and mentorship from Rodger Cowdrey, an International Business Accountant and Children’s Author.
Verity aims to run her small business alongside illustration pursuits. Her skills in photoshop editing, digital painting, writing and designing makes her a versatile artist.
