#WeAreVenom | Poster By Jamesjamesjames

First version of my entry for the #WeAreVenom creative brief.

My original idea was to incorporate elements of London into my my design, referencing and playing on the fact that the Winning entries will be displayed in the UK capital. However the character is so well designed that it became clear that he/it should be front and centre. My iPad was broken so it was tricky to add extreme details as I have in the past for portraits. This meant I couldn’t make the image of a symbiote with my head. But in the end, it meant I could experiment with different textures and the result gave a darker feel.

Drawing Venom’s head in a style that I had experimented with for an Alien print felt right and gave the intensity that I wanted to convey.

The initial type treatment was a scratchy hand-drawn version of the hashtag. However it simply was striking enough and couldn’t be read from distance. After playing with composition for hours, I’m happy with the resulting text element on the poster. Pretty simple but it works with the simplicity of the poster overall.
