Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride – The piano duet.

Posters are infinite, so are artists’ skills and creativity. Yet sometimes you just feel like not everything has been told (yet) about a movie, music or anything else for that matter. I’ve loved The Corpse Bride since I saw it in the theaters in 2005 (that’s if I remember well), and as a graphic artist always kept an eye on what was going on as far as posters are concerned. It seemed to me that an aspect of this movie hadn’t really been the subject of any poster, actually, a character is fairly missing when it comes to any discussion on that movie. Don’t get me wrong I love Helena Bonham Carter’s character, but I really enjoyed more the one whose voice comes from Emily Watson as what fascinated me the most about that movie were 2 things : the first third of the movie in gloomy London with the awful living characters (the foggy atmosphere) and the score. The music by Danny Elfman is absolutely gorgeous, and the combination of those 2 things culminated in that Piano Duet moment between Victor Van Dort and Victoria Everglot in a pre-nuptial scene. So I really took it to make a poster that would put into scene this moment, the 2 shy, pale and candid characters having a very brief moment of joy as they meet, but also wanted to forecast a shadow on this carefree time with the silhouette of the judge looking upon them behind the glass door…
