The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolph Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.

Oblivious to what’s happening over the other side of the wall, the children of his family innocently enjoy their lives in harmony. Against picturesque scenes, director Jonathan Glazer contrast the idyllic life with Auschwitz’s grim reality, masterfully crafts a controlled and composed portrayal of the Holocaust, forcing viewers to confront the unsettling proximity of ordinary lives to unimaginable horror.
