The Crown is one of my favourite shows Netflix has produced and when it was revealed that Olivia Colman would be taking over from Claire Foy for season 3, I couldn’t wait for it to be released. This excitement was reignited when Entertainment Weekly did a cover story on the new season, with an accompanying set of photos of the new cast in character. This had me inspired to create a portrait of Colman in the titular role. I wanted to keep it simple and do a black and white portrait, I wanted it to have a classic feel and a more serious tone to match the now older Queen. I then decided to adapt this into an alternative poster by adding the title treatment and the Netflix logo. I then developed this by experimenting with background colours, I created a version with a red background and another with a purple background, taking inspiration from the colours most associated with Royalty and The Royal Family. I liked the red version the most because it tied in with the red Netflix logo, giving it a much more cohesive feel.
