An homage painting to the Studio ADI produced and Alec Gillis directed 2015 practical effects horror movie “Harbinger Down”. I loved the idea of this crowdfunding project, bringing back practical effects work with style, after Studio ADI’s remarkable effects work for “The Thing” (2010) had been digitally altered, to the frustration of many fans of John Carpenter’s classic movie from 1982. With “Harbinger Down” being an homage to the original 1982 “Thing” I figured, why not paint an homage to the orignal and to this day awe inspiring poster art by Drew Struzan? I used an early make-up test for “HD” as my main idea, slightly changing the concept of the “Thing” poster by having tentacles erupt from the poor guy’s face instead of glaring light. Painted on 15,75″ x 19,69″ MDF hardboard panel, using airbrush acrylics and colored pencils.
