Detective Pikachu

This poster began as an attempt to take inspiration from minimal posters. Particulalry in the way silhouettes are used to create an extra level of semantic meaning or visual pun.

As I developed the idea and saw more stills from the film, it seemed there was a real feeling of noir and almost sci fi steampunk look to the ‘street photography’. Reviews certainly mentioned this as well and I wanted to capture that rainy, steamy look which took it beyond the initial vector-based silhouette idea.

I hope that the visual play on the circle of light and magnifying glass calling back to a poke ball comes across. There were versions that made it more obvious but to the detriment to the poster overall. And mystery is what a detective film is all about…
